Not The best of the series. But still quite good. The writing is wonderful. The world Sutherland has created is vibrant and complex and oh so amazing well thought out for a middle grade series. Or frankly, for ANY epic fantasy series. I loved finally getting to see the Icewing culture, even though it was terribly depressing & must be so hard on all those poor Icewing dragonets. I'm loving how far the Darkstalker legend has come, has been expanded for the ghost stories of the terrified Nightwings in book 5. And it was great getting to know these new dragonets better. (Although I still can't figure out why they are suddenly so loyal to each other after knowing each other for like 5 days.) The story itself was well crafted and fun, with hints of "oh my god, this stuff is kinda dark, why is it for kids?" Thrown in. Like all the other "Wings of Fire" books. But, sadly, I didn't find "Winter Turning" QUITE as enjoyable as previous books. And again, sadly, I had to give it only 3 stars instead of a super excited 5 or 4. Mostly, due to Winter himself. It was painful, being stuck in his head. :( so sad, because I usually love the tortured soul, angry & sad type heroes. I found him annoying and whiney and mean. Why did Moon spend so much time telling how good & great he is? All I saw was a super whiny little dragon. A hateful dragon. I get that he spent his whole life being told to basically hate all other tribes, (& having unpleasable parents) but come on. It was a bit over the top.... And then the over the top-ness of it was undermined by how quickly he got over it all. Although I did feel how much he missed and loved Hailstorm so that was good. He just wasn't a very likable character. :( I know that they don't always have to be, but I was so looking forward to this book and this character & I felt so let down. :/ It wasn't a bad book really. It just wasn't as great as it could have been. I felt Winter could have been a great character. But really he was just obnoxious. At least I only had to deal with one book in his point of view. The series is still one of my favorites, so I look forward to reading and reviewing the next book "Escaping Peril" Recommended to fans of dragons, the rest of the series, and lovers of epic fantasy.

Okay, I know people love this book and that's amazing and all. I 100% respect that but it's just that I really don't like Winter's personality. He's just really mean. Yes, he does go through some character development through out the book but in book ten he's just like " Yeah, whatever Moon, I'm going back to my old ways and you can't stop me. " Okay, fine maybe is considered "nice" by trying to save his brother but like bruh, you can at least help your companions and take some advise from your friends. This book was good and I liked it, it's just that Winter was really getting on my nerves. I have this thing that I get really pumped about characters that are rude and I start yelling at the book. My family look at me like "What's going on?" and I'm like " This character is the worst smuggest dragon in the world!!!" If you're okay with smug and self righteous characters, then go ahead and read this book. If not, it's still a good read, just the main character can be annoying.

Winter want to find his sister alone. But when his winglet tags along, he feel it is useful, but does not like it. He goes on a quest to find his long lost brother. Very exciting.
Winter has always felt like he’s useless—useless to his family, friends, and basically most dragons. This is probably because his parents spent the first few years of his life reminding him that he would never be as good at everything as his brother, Hailstorm. So when Winter is invited into Jade Mountain Academy, a school where young dragons like him are supposed to live in peace, he doesn’t expect to make any friends. But when he meets Moonwatcher, Qibli, and Kinkajou, he is proven wrong. There is one problem with his new companions, though; when he goes looking for his sister, Icicle, who nearly killed Jade Mountain Academy’s librarian, they want to come with him...and Winter doesn’t want an entourage of dragons from different tribes following him around. When they arrive at the rainforest, which is where Icicle has gone next, they are greeted with a big surprise. Icicle is nowhere to be found—and the five friends must go on a quest to find Winter sister and stop her, once and for all. I’m starting to love wings of fire because I can discover new words and the first book I read was book seven, I kinda got mixed-up because there wasn’t any book one in the library but anyways it’s not a big deal. But I really love wings of fire
I really love graphic novels especially ones that are action packed so this was a big upgrade it seems like something very intresting trust me on this on you all will really love it

I think it is a great book full of friendship and great fun.With trying to save his brother and a love in a different tribe, I think this book is the best book in the series so far!
