The Newbery Medal-winning author of Walk Two Moons, Sharon Creech, brings readers a story with enormous heart.

Love That Dog shows how one boy named Jack finds his voice with the help of a teacher, a pencil, some yellow paper, and of course, a dog. Written as a series of free-verse poems from Jack's point of view, and with classic poetry included in the back matter, this novel is perfect for kids and teachers, too.

Jack hates poetry. Only girls write it and every time he tries to, his brain feels empty. But his teacher, Ms. Stretchberry, won't stop giving her class poetry assignments—and Jack can't avoid them. But then something amazing happens. The more he writes, the more he learns that he does have something to say.

"I guess it does
look like a poem
when you see it
typed up
like that."

I love that book!!!! It is sad at the end! I want to say but I am am not going to spoil it for other readers

I wanted to read this book because I love dogs. A boy got a dog named Sky. They played together everyday. The boy wrote poems about Sky. One day they were playing together until Sky got hit by a car. I think it is sad but it's a good book.

I decided to read this book because I love dogs. Although it was pretty sad I loved it. This book was about a little boy who loved his dog, Sky. They always played together, and the boy wrote poems about him too. One day when they were playing catch Sky ran into the street and got hit. once again, although sad, a very good book.

great and funny

funny sweet heroic this book is just great to read

I don't even like poetry which is how this book is written but it was so great to read. It is written all as letters to the author Walter Dean Meyers so it's basically like a homework assignment that any kid could have! But it is so good and sweet I love this book.

This book is an excellent poem. It is about a boy named Jack who just can't write poetry but his teacher encourages Jack to write poetry. I would rate this book 5 stars!! I would really encourage anyone to read this great novel

it really go and really sad at the same tins

Love That Dog is an excellent novel by Sharon Creech. It's written in poetry form but it's still a book. It's a very short read about 84 pages but the pages are very short and easy to read. The plot is a boy named Jack who starts poetry in his class. When he first tries he says "I can't do it, brain is empty." But as the book goes on he starts loving poetry. And it's important to notice how his confidence grows throughout the book. For example, he doesn't want to write his name on the poem when his teacher wants to put it on the board. But then later in the book he puts his name on it. I liked it because it told a great lesson, don't be afraid to be adventurous. Also, it's very well written. I give it 5 stars!!
