On Sunday, August 31st, 352 kitesurfers made their way to the pristine beaches of Tarifa, a small town on the south coast of Spain, to attempt a new Guinness World record for the largest en masse kitesurf, over one nautical mile.
Despite a strong easterly wind which created serious challenges for the contenders who were made up of a mix of professionals and amateurs, the kitesurfers successfully completed the course, claiming the title from the 318 participants who had established it in 2013. In addition to breaking the world record, the group, which is part of the Virgin Kitesurfing Armada also raised money for three charities - the Kitesurfing Armada Trust, Virgin Unite, as well as, a local Spanish charity.
