In most parts of the world a $2 billion U.S. Dollar house would be built in the middle of a sprawling estate, surrounded by lush greenery. At the very least it would at least have a decent playground!. However in Mumbai, India, a country where land is scarce, it means a 27-floor skyscraper, situated right in the middle of a busy downtown area.
The custom-built house belongs to Mukesh Ambani, the world's fifth richest man. When completed in January 2009, the home will have been under construction for four years and will be the most expensive home in the world. Each floor on the house has a different floor plan, and no two floors will use the same raw materials. For example if one floor uses Bamboo, none of the other 26 floors use it.
The construction process is also very fluid, with the architects and designers creating as they go and altering floor and design concepts as each floor is being built.
Once completed, the first six floors of the house will be designated as a parking structure, mainly to house the family's own 168 cars! Since all these cars need constant maintenance, the next floor is dedicated to an in-house car garage.
After that start the entertainment floors, the health club, a theatre and the guest floors. The family of four will reside on the top four floors, which have a view of the Arabian Sea. The final two floors are dedicated for general maintenance and a control room for the helicopters, which will be landing on a helipad on the terrace!
Incase you are wondering, it will take over 600 people to look after this home on a day-to-day basis. Below are some pictures of the interior of this extravaganza!
