Max, a Springer Spaniel has led a life most dogs can only dream about. He joined the Avon and Somerset Police Force in England,at the age of one and spent the next seven years as a sniffer for the drug enforcement agency.
However, about two years ago, he was forced to retire because of dehabilitating arthiritis in his hips, legs and back. The normally active dog, was now resigned to spending his days lying around, since he couldn't even walk properly.
However, his former police friends were determined not to let Max suffer for the rest of his life.
They searched for a solution and earlier this year, came across a chariot like structure that attaches to his back, providing him with the stability and wheels that he needs to move around.
Max, who now lives with Inspector Anne Higgins, took to the wheels immediately.
Now, instead of chasing after the bad guys, he spends his days chasing leaves and tennis balls with his buddy Stanley. His owner says that thanks to the new wheels, Max can outrun anybody!
After seeing Max's amazing progress, 25 other retired police dogs with similar issues, have also been fitted with the 'chariot', allowing them to have fun once again.
